ABOUT EL VIEJO ALMACEN
EL VIEJO ALMACEN
Located in the traditional neighborhood of San Telmo, El Viejo Almacén is one of Buenos Aires’ most historic and iconic tango houses. Founded in 1969, this legendary venue preserves the essence of early 20th-century porteño architecture, offering a warm and authentic atmosphere that evokes the Buenos Aires of bygone times.
Its halls, decorated with period details, vintage photographs, and traditional elements, recreate the ambiance of the first cafés and almacenes where tango was born. The intimate layout and close proximity to the stage allow guests to experience every gesture, movement, and musical note up close, creating a fully immersive and authentic experience.
El Viejo Almacén is considered a living heritage of tango, a place where history, tradition, and passion for Buenos Aires music and dance remain alive, attracting both tourists and enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in the city’s most genuine cultural expression.
The rhythm of the show is energetic and happy, the demonstrations have euphoria but as well passion and sensuality, with a mix of tang "brushing" the floor, the most traditional, and stage tango. The show takes place in a small space but still is big show format. As well as the excellent dance we can emphasize the quality of the quintet music performance, a group of real veterans of tango with years and years of expertise, who show their enjoyment of playing this beautiful music together. Hugo Marcel, the lead singer and one of the icons of tango, gives a passionate and very personal performance.
